Rhys Millen’s 2009 Drift Car.

The 2008 SEMA Hyundai Genesis RMR had on display, has been stripped down and rebuild to possibly be Rhys Millens 2009 Formula D Drift Car.

RMR tossed the inline-4 turbo engine in favor of the Genesis optional 3.8L V6 "Lambda" engine. In addition they upped the engine up to 4.1 liters. Added a turbo and should be producing 550hp and 520 lb ft of torque. Equipped with a HKS 5-speed sequential gearbox.

Fitted with Enkie wheels at 18x8.5" at the front and 18x9.5" at the rear. Covered with 225/40/40R18 at the front and 265/40R18 at the rear with Toyo Proxes R1R tires.

The new Genesis Coupe looks like it’s going to be a promising car for tuner monkeys to play around with. I know it's the perfect car for the market for those who are concerned with the economy. It's a cost-effective RWD sports car that anyone can buy with change left over for mods!. Starting at $22,000 is not all that bad for a inline-4 Turbo producing 210hp. If you want more power for you money, add another $3,000 and go for the V6. Also Hyundai has the “Certainty in Uncertain Times” program where if you get laid off, lose your license, physical disability, and accidental death, are able to give back the car without having to worry about negative equity.

I see this to be a good replacement for the 240sx. I know it’s not a Nissan, but still. Nissan and Toyota have both stop making affordable sports cars the past few years. Sure the 370Z is their but its pricing is past the $28k mark. So it’s a good come back for something affordable and playful. It’s neither SR nor a VQ that tuners monkeys are familiar with, but it seems like Rhys likes it, along with a lot of car reviewers and testers.
